Fee Change Update

10 2

This is a notice to all members that a fee restructure will take effect from April 2024.

This change is our first in over 10 years and equates to an additional £1 per month for standard SSC Members.

Currently your £2 staff social club membership allows access to apply for heavily discounted events, access to obtain a fitness centre membership and two free tickets in our SMILE staff lottery.

From April 2024, membership fees will remain £2, however all SMILE lottery tickets will now be charged at 50p per ticket, meaning the staff social club fee will be £3 per month for all standard SSC members.

Please see table below which will help you understand how your membership will change:

By restricting the amount of the increase — and by continuing to subsidize events by up to 50% — we seek to keep the Staff Social Club affordable for all.

The circumstances prompting this change are compelling and have been agreed and voted for by the Staff Social Club Committee. Due to the success and continued growth of the SSC, it is now necessary to restructure the membership fees to ensure we operate within the legal boundaries of our lottery licence. Once these changes are embedded, we will be in a good position to review the lottery prize structure to reflect the views of SSC members, hopefully to give away more or bigger prizes.

In addition to this, membership funds are required to grow and offer more to our members at a pace that supports our SSC strategy. (To read an overview of the SSC strategy, click HERE.)

In order to provide the events and services that our members rely on, and so we may continue to develop and excel, we must take meaningful steps to grow our revenue to be reinvested into the Staff Social Club. Additionally, we are launching a multipronged effort to increase our member offering and experience. The membership rate adjustment is only one of several such initiatives. Others include:

  • Growing our event parameters to host even more events and offers through more suppliers across the region and UK
  • Testing and implementing a ballot system and group booking option for certain events to make applying fair and easy for all members
  • Making other additional system and website developments/updates

All of us at the Staff Social Club feel grateful to be able to rely on your support. By coming together at this critical juncture, our community will continue to pursue to be the best staff social club in the NHS.
