Celebrating our differences

May is all about celebrating diversity at Newcastle Hospitals

It’s an opportunity to learn about our diverse workforce, hear new perspectives and appreciate how our differences make us stronger together.

At Newcastle Hospitals we recognise there is real benefit in providing an inclusive environment in which diverse employees can work together and feel valued. Through our Flourish framework, we are therefore aiming to build on our programme of promoting equality and diversity by having a workforce that reflects our local community and is equipped to deliver the best service to our patients.

We have organised a number of events, in partnership with North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to kick start Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Week (9-13 May 2022).

Events Programme

A highlight of the event programme is Let’s Talk Race on Friday 20th May, where a panel of experts by experience will provide a facilitated discussion on race. Please click here to register: Let’s Talk Race Tickets, Fri 20 May 2022 at 14:00 | Eventbrite.

National Staff Network Day takes place on 11 May and we will be thanking staff involved in our networks, as well as encouraging others to find out more or get involved. You can find out more about our three staff networks (LGBT, BAME and Disability) here:

Additionally, a suite of resources have been developed to share throughout the month.

Karen Pearce, Head of Equality Diversity and Inclusion (People), said: “We’ve got another fantastic programme of virtual sessions this year and I’d really encourage everyone to take a look at the programme and participate where they can.  We’ve got some influential and well know speakers who will generate some fantastic discussion and raise awareness at the same time.”
